According to the latest report from the Peruvian Blueberry Growers Association (Proarándanos), the Peruvian blueberry industry's 24/25 season harvest is progressing slowly and well below previous seasons.
As of week 33, 15,384 tons of blueberries had been shipped to global markets, 35% lower than the 23/24 season. Of this, 14,855 tons of regular blueberries were shipped, 30% below last season and 2% below recent forecasts. Organic blueberry shipments of 529 tons were 79% below last season and 32% below forecast.
In terms of origin, the main producers were mixed. la Libertad led the way with 6,355 tons of exports, 41% of the total, but only 50% of last season's total. Lambayeque was next with 3,416 tons or 22% of total exports, 28% higher than the previous quarter.
In terms of export destinations, 6,597 tons of blueberries were shipped to the U.S., accounting for 43% of total exports, a 28% decrease from the previous quarter. 3,184 tons were shipped to China, accounting for 21% of total exports, a 42% decrease from the previous quarter. 2,643 tons were shipped to Europe, accounting for 17% of total exports, a 47% decrease from the previous quarter. 739 tons were shipped to the U.K., accounting for 5% of total exports, a 63% decrease from the previous quarter.
In terms of exporters, Camposol led the way with 2,273 tons, or 15% of total shipments. Blueberry Perú Sociedad Anónima was next with 1,272 tons shipped, or 8% of the total. Then came Hortifrut Perú and Agrícola Santa Azul, with shipments of 1,137 tons and 1,052 tons, respectively, representing 7% of the total.
