On September 13th, the China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment issued a notice on improving the requirements for safety evaluation materials of "three novel food products" (hereinafter referred to as "three novel foods"). With the issuance of this notice, significant changes will occur in China's requirements and processes for the application and review of "three novel foods" derived from genetically modified microorganisms, and the acceptance and declaration of new food ingredients sourced from genetically modified microorganisms will officially commence.

Entrusted by the National Health Commission, the National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment undertakes the technical evaluation of new food ingredients, new varieties of food additives, and new varieties of food-related products (hereinafter referred to as "three novel foods"). In accordance with the relevant requirements of the National Health Commission and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, for products that meet the application conditions for "three novel foods" and involve genetically modified microorganisms in their production and processing, applicants should submit relevant materials in the production process section of the application materials for new food ingredients and new varieties of food-related products, as well as in the production process section of the safety evaluation materials for new varieties of food additives, as required in the attachment.
