On September 23, 2024, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) issued Announcement No. 135 of 2024, announcing that with immediate effect, the importation of Namibian sheep and goat meat that meets the relevant requirements is permitted.
The sheep meat allowed for import is frozen and chilled (boned and bone-in) sheep and goat meat [the skeletal muscle of sheep after slaughter, bloodletting and removal of wool, internal organs, head and tail, and limbs (wrists and below the joints)] (hereinafter referred to as sheep meat for export to China).
Throat, tongue, minced meat, minced meat, stranded meat, offal, mechanically separated meat and other by-products shall be removed together and are not allowed to be exported to China.
Enterprises exporting mutton to China (including slaughtering, splitting, processing and storage enterprises) shall be located in a non-immunized foot-and-mouth disease-free zone recognized by the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform of the Republic of Namibia, and in conformity with the requirements of relevant veterinary hygiene and public health regulations of the People's Republic of China and Namibia.
Enterprises exporting mutton to China should be registered by the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China, and the mutton produced by an enterprise that has been authorized to be registered can only be exported to China after the date of registration.
