On September 23, 2024, the World Health Organization (WHO) released a Strategy for Formulation Reform of Food and Beverage Products to improve dietary health.
Food formulation reform is a change in the processing or composition of a food or beverage product with the aim of improving the nutrition of the food or reducing the amount of its associated ingredients. Food reformulation contributes to access to safe and nutritious food and to healthier and sustainable consumption patterns. The Strategy provides information and guidance documents to further effectively implement the Strategy's requirements to eliminate industrially produced trans-fatty acids (TFA) from the food supply, reduce the energy content of food and beverage products, and reduce the levels of saturated fats (SFA), sugars, and salt/sodium in foods.
