On August 23, 2024, the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) issued Notice 2024-54 suspending the export of tomatoes from Australia to New Zealand due to the detection of Tomato Brown Wrinkle Fruit Virus.

The Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI), New Zealand's national plant protection organization, has recommended that exports of all tomatoes produced in Australia to New Zealand be suspended from 24 August 2024 onwards.

Tomatoes with phytosanitary certificates issued before or on August 23, 2024 are allowed to be exported to New Zealand.
