On September 24, 2024, the European Commission published on its website Consultation Paper Ares (2024) 6749146 proposing to amend Regulation (EU) 2019/624 on the pre-slaughter and post-slaughter inspection of animals. The feedback period for the call for comments is October 22, 2024. The main content sections are as follows:

(1) Provides species-specific criteria and conditions under which ante-mortem inspections may be carried out at the place of origin. Including: poultry, domestic cattle, sheep, goats and pigs; poultry reared for the production of “foie gras” and poultry slaughtered at the place of origin without evisceration shall be sent to the splitting plant with the eviscerated carcasses together with a health certificate in accordance with Chapter 2 of Annex IV of the Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/2235;

(2 ) Post-slaughter inspections carried out by official veterinarians include the addition of: animals infected with Mycobacterium bovis, Mycobacterium goatii and Mycobacterium tuberculosis; and unvaccinated animals not infected with Brucella abortus, Brucella abortus in sheep and Brucella abortus in pigs.
