Dehydroacetic acid and its sodium salt will see a widespread ban in China from 2025.

The National Standard for Food Safety Standards for the Use of Food Additives (GB 2760-2024), released in March 2024, deleted the regulations on the use of dehydroacetic acid and its sodium salt in food products such as starch products, bread, pastries, and fillings of bakery products, as well as lowering the maximum amount it can be used in pickled vegetables, adjusting the amount from the original 1 g/kg to 0.3 g/kg. The new version of the standard will come into effect on February 8, 2025.
