On October 11, 2024, the General Administration of Customs of China(GACC) issued Announcement No. 148 of 2024, announcing that with immediate effect, the import of wild aquatic products from Madagascar that meet the relevant requirements is permitted.

Wild aquatic products refer to wild, wild aquatic animal products and their products for human consumption, marine plant products such as algae and their products, excluding species listed in the Appendices of CITES and China's List of Wildlife under State Key Protection, live aquatic animals, and aquatic animal and plant propagation materials.

Production enterprises (including processing enterprises, fishing vessels, transportation vessels, processing vessels and independent cold storage) exporting wild aquatic products to China shall be approved by the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy of the Republic of Madagascar (hereinafter referred to as the Malagasy side) and subject to its effective supervision. The hygienic conditions of the production enterprises shall comply with the requirements of the relevant veterinary hygiene and public health laws and regulations of China and Madagascar.

According to the Food Safety Law of the People's Republic of China and the Regulations for the Implementation of the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Entry and Exit Animal and Plant Quarantine, production enterprises exporting wild aquatic products to China shall be recommended by the Malagasy side for registration by the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China. Without registration, they are not allowed to export to China.
