Brazil proposed to revise the standards for limits of contaminants in food

On November 1, 2024, the Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) issued Consultation document No. 1289, which proposes to revise the standards for the limits of contaminants in food (i.e., Directive No. 160 of 2022). Specifically, it establishes maximum limits for contaminants such as lead in some food categories, some of which are shown in the table below.

  

The consultation document is open until December 24, 2024 for comments.
