Pedro Monti, general manager of Silvestres, a dried fruit company owned by the Chilean Prunes Processors and Exporters Association (Chileprunes), recently said that despite the strong recovery in the European market, China remains the largest export market for Chilean dried prunes.

According to Chilean website Simfruit, Monti said that demand for Chilean prunes has grown stronger in Europe in recent months, but that they have not lost sight of the importance of the Chinese market and the plasticity of the Indian market. “Europe is re-energized. Last year, demand for dried Chilean prunes in the European market was dormant due to inflation, the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and other issues. But the situation has improved in recent months.” He said.

According to Monti, the current situation has resulted in a more balanced export market for the company due to the recovery of the European market. “Last year, most of our exports of dried prunes went to China. But now, the European market is revitalized. In particular, Germany, Poland and the UK have all shown interest in our dried prunes.” He said.

“Although the European market is waking up, China is still the largest export market for Chilean dried prunes, both for the company and the industry as a whole. We have a long and strong commercial relationship with China, ensuring a constant flow of exports to this Asian market.” Monti adds.
