Nepalese media on November 4, citing the National Tea and Coffee Development Board data, said a total of 77 tons of coffee exported in the 2022/23 fiscal year, compared with the previous fiscal year's 72 tons of exports increased, the last fiscal year 2023/24 data are still being counted. 2022/23 fiscal year coffee imports totaled only 100 million rupees, compared with the previous fiscal year's 320 million rupees, there is a significant drop of more than 68%. The head of the said committee said that the area under coffee cultivation in the country currently stands at 3,659 hectares, with about 33,000 farmers engaged in production, of which commercial coffee cultivation has expanded to 43 out of 77 districts.
As for tea exports, they stood at Rs3.94 billion in the fiscal year 2022/23, an increase of about Rs140 million over the previous fiscal year. The number of tea-producing enterprises in the country has reached 161, employing nearly 60,000 people.
