On November 7, 2024, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) issued Announcement No. 153 of 2024, announcing that with immediate effect, the importation of heat-treated silkworm cocoons from Laos that meet the relevant requirements is permitted.

Cocoons in this announcement refer to heat-processed cocoons originating from the territory of Laos and undergoing dry heat treatment at 100°C for a period of not less than 2 hours.

Enterprises producing, processing and storing cocoons for export to China should be approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Lao People's Democratic Republic (hereinafter referred to as the Laos side) and produce under the effective supervision of the Laos side. They shall be recommended by the Lao side to the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as the Chinese side), and shall be qualified and registered by the Chinese side.
