On November 5, 2024, the South African Department of Health issued the draft "Maximum Mycotoxin Content Regulation 2024 in Food" through the government Gazette for public comment, with a feedback period of 3 months. The main contents include definition, detection method, sampling standard and schedule (maximum content of mycotoxins in some foods).

The regulation will be implemented 12 months after the publication of the Gazette and repeal the Regulations No. 1145 of 2004, No. 751 of 2009 and No. 987 of 2016.
