On November 5, 2024, the Thailand Government Gazette website published a standard for honey products, which will be implemented from the date of publication. Main contents:
(1) Scope and Definition; Product Classification (Dehydrated Processed Honey and Unprocessed Honey);
(2) Quality Standard:
No other ingredients shall be added to the honey; sensory requirements such as characteristic smell and color of honey;
Chemical index requirements (e.g. unprocessed honey: moisture content ≤ 35%, sucrose content ≤ 5%, PH value: 2.5-4, hydroxymethylfurfural value ≤ 40mg/kg, etc.);
Quality acceptance standard: beeswax ≤ 0.5%, no bubbles affecting the appearance and quality of the honey, and no additives; and standards for contaminants and microbiological are shown in the table below;
(3) Product packaging and labeling: product name, net weight, name and address of manufacturer or importer, country of origin, date of production, shelf life, storage instructions, etc.
