On November 14, 2024, the General Administration of Customs of China issued Announcement No. 160 of 2024, announcing that from now on, Maldives wild aquatic products that meet the relevant requirements will be allowed to import.
Wild aquatic products refer to wild aquatic animal products and products thereof, marine plant products such as algae and products thereof for human consumption, excluding species listed in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and China's List of National Key Wildlife Species for Conservation, live aquatic animals, and aquatic animal and plant propagation materials.
Production enterprises that export wild aquatic products to China (including fishing vessels, processing vessels, transport vessels, independent cold storage, the same below) shall be approved by the Maldivian authorities (hereinafter referred to as the "Maldivian side") and subject to their effective supervision. The food safety and hygiene conditions of the production enterprises shall comply with the requirements of the relevant food safety laws and regulations of China and the Maldives.
According to the relevant provisions of the Food Safety Law of the People's Republic of China and its implementing regulations and the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Entry and Exit Animal and Plant Quarantine and its implementing Regulations, the production enterprises that export wild aquatic products to China shall be recommended by the Malaysian side to the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as the "Chinese side") for registration. No export to China without registration.
