In the last agricultural season (September 2023-August 2024), Kazakhstan sold sunflower seeds to foreign markets for $87.2 million. The main buyer was China, to which more than 90% of sunflower seeds were sold.
The top five buyers of sunflower seeds in Kazakhstan are:
1. China - $80.3 million
2. Russia - $3.7 million
3. Uzbekistan - $1.7 million
4. Tajikistan - $0.5 million
5. Azerbaijan - $0.5 million
In addition, Afghanistan ($0.2 million), Czech Republic ($0.1 million), Lithuania ($0.1 million), and Turkey ($0.1 million) also imported small amounts.
Compared to the 2022-2023 agricultural season, the value of Kazakhstan's sunflower exports has decreased significantly. Kazakhstan earned $147.4 million from sunflower seed exports last agricultural season, with the main buyer being China ($100.8 million), but a significant portion of revenues also went to Uzbekistan ($36.7 million).
