On November 13, 2024, the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) published Bulletin CL 2024/86-CAC proposing the revision of a number of standards for special diets, with a comment period ending on November 20, 2024, to provide feedback. Key elements include:
(1) Proposed principles for determining nutrient reference values for larger infant formulas and foods for young children (6-36 months of age) and identifying appropriate data sources and bases;
(2) Proposed development of reference value requirements (NRVs-R) for some nutrients, as shown in the table below;
(3) It is proposed to revise the Standard for Infant Formula and Infant Formula for Special Medical Purposes (CXS 72-1981) by revising the content requirements of some ingredients, such as cow's milk protein from 0.45-0.7g/100kj to 0.43-0.72g/100kj, and vitamin K from 1-6.5μg/100kg to 0.96-6μg/100kg.
