On November 18, 2024, the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) amended the import conditions for breaded and processed shrimp with effect from the date of publication. Key elements:

(1) The product range is extended to semi-cooked breaded, battered and crumbed shrimp (BBC shrimp) and highly processed uncooked shrimp made into dumplings, spring rolls or snack-type products (HP shrimp);

(2) importers will not receive a directive for document inspection, but rather a directive to suspend shipments pending processing; the new directive removes the requirement for further document evaluation based on previous import inspection compliance; importation of the above products will still require the provision of relevant documents, but no other measures need to be taken to meet the conditions of biosecurity imports;

(3) Semi-cooked breadcrumbed, battered and crumbed shrimp (BBC shrimp) will still need to be transported in an undamaged package prior to inspection.
