According to Mongolia National Television News Network, Mongolia's livestock breeding totaled 64.7 million heads, of which 5.4 million heads of cattle, accounting for 8%. At present, the daily milk production can basically meet the domestic market demand, but other 40% and more dairy products still need to be imported from abroad.

According to Mongolia Customs Administration, in the first 10 months of 2024, Mongolia imported dairy products such as cheese, milk powder, cream, yogurt, liquid milk, etc. totaling 21.1 million US dollars, an increase of 20% year-on-year, of which milk powder imports amounted to 11.4 million US dollars.

The Government of Mongolia, in order to further increase the supply of milk and dairy products and better protect the domestic market demand, intends to provide livestock households with a subsidy of 1,000 tugrugs ($0.29) per liter of raw milk. Currently, the market price of a liter of raw milk is about 3,000 tugrugs ($0.88).
