On April 18-19, 2018, The conference on FSMP products standards and regulations coordination was organized in Beijing hosted by the National Food Safety Risk Assessment Center.

Objective

Discuss standard regulation content and coordinate issues between standards, standards and related management practices.

Background

According to the original NHFPC "Announcement on Publication of the 2016 National Food Safety Standards Project Plan (Second Edition) Notice, related departments have completed the "General Principles of FSMP" and the accompanying "Full Nutritional Formula Foods for Diabetes" and "Full Nutritional Formula Foods for Tumors" and "Full Nutritional Formula Food for Inflammatory Bowel Disease " and other standards development and revision work.

Participants

More than 50 industry experts and industry association representatives from the Food Assessment Center, National Food Safety Risk Assessment Center, National Health and Hygiene Committee, National Institute of Hospital Administration, State Administration for Market Regulation, National Committee for the Protection of Chinese Medicinal Product Variety, and the People’s Liberation Army General Hospitals, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Cancer Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, West China Hospital of Sichuan University, etc.

Speaking about the relationship between general principles and supporting product standards, the conference unanimously believed that the nutritional needs of various types of diseases have their own particularities. Therefore, in the formulation of supporting product standards, the consideration should focus on credible domestic and international scientific evidences to adjust relevant nutrient indicators. If the particularities are not obvious or the evidence is not sufficient, the relevant indicators should be consistent with the general rules as close as possible. In addition, due to the special nature of the FSMP matrix and formula, and the current market samples are insufficient, it is necessary to systematically review the applicability of the testing method under the cooperation of the industry.

Expert forecast

The scale of the FSMP market in the world is worth about 70 billion RMB, and the compound annual growth rate is expected to be about 6% from 2016 to 2020, but China only accounts for 1% of the global market. Therefore, China is actively promoting the establishment of special national standards for FSMP in 2018 and will continue to improve the FSMP standard regulation system. It is believed that the relevant standards for FSMP services will soon be released.

The policy is becoming clearer, the identity is clear and the application is determined.FSMP will be the third blue ocean in the field of large health field following Medicine and instrument, and this industry will grow exponentially in the future.
