Since last year, the former China Food and Drug Administration (former CFDA) has stepped up its research and judgment on hot issues in the food industry.  Also the CFDA established a rumor prevention linkage mechanism with the Ministry of Internet and other departments to anticipate the hotspots of rumors, grasp key incidents and important links, and vigorously carry out "preventive" to ridicule.

This mechanism let the truth run before the rumors and achieve good social effects.

Experts in the industry pointed out that at present, China's food safety risk management work has begun to take effect.  And it is shifting from “passive response” to “active prevention”.

However, there are still problems such as information mistiming, and it is urgent to further strengthen the government, industry, science and technology, and enterprises.
The co-governance between the media and consumers will work together to promote the in-depth development of food safety governance.

The food safety environment is stable

Meng Suhe, chairman of the China Food Science and Technology Society, said: "In recent years, with the joint efforts of the food industry, the incident of related food safety hot issues has decreased, and the food safety environment has stabilized overall."

The “Food Safety Supervision and Inspection of 2017” announced by the former China Food and Drug Administration showed that in 2017, the former China Food and Drug Administration organized a total of 233,300 batches of food sampling inspections nationwide, and the overall average sampling pass rate was 97.6%.  It is 0.8 percentage points higher than 2016.  The results of the sampling test show that the current food safety situation in China continues to be stable and positive.  The specific performance is in four aspects: the overall qualified rate of bulk consumer foods remains high; the pass rate of sampling inspection of large-scale production and operation enterprises continues to increase;  the qualification rate of infant formula foods has increased;  the outstanding food safety problems have been gradually reduced, and the relevant departments have been continuously "Melamine" was not detected in infant formula milk powder for 9 years, and "Sudan Red" was not detected in egg products for 4 consecutive years.

It is understood that in recent years, China's health departments have consistently played a role in risk monitoring and risk assessment to improve the scientific support of food safety standards system, and strengthen communication and cooperation with relevant departments, industry associations, academic groups and technical institutions.  Up to now, China has accumulatively formulated and published 1,224 national food safety standards, involving nearly 20,000 food safety and nutrition indicators, and basically covers food varieties that are consumed daily.

China's food quality and safety traceability system is also increasingly perfect.  According to reports, at present, food industry enterprises above designated size have generally implemented good operating practices, and more than 5,000 food companies have established integrity management systems, of which the infant formula milk powder industry has achieved 100% traceability of products.
