China SAMR 2018 2nd Quarter Food Safety Inspection Sampling Report

In the second quarter of 2018, a total of 525,258 batches of food (including health foods and food additives) samples were supervised and sampled, and 512,159 batches of samples were tested as qualified , and 13099 batches of  samples were unqualified. The overall qualify rate of the sample is 97.5%, the unqualify rate was 2.5%, which was basically match the same period in 2017. The sample qualified rate of common consumer goods remained stable. Among them, the qualified rates of grain processed products, meat products, egg products and dairy products were 98.6%, 98.1%, 99.4% and 99.8%, respectively, which were higher than the overall qualified rate of the samples. The qualified rate of edible oil, oil and its products is 97.3%, which is slightly lower than the overall qualified rate of the sample.

Judging from the unqualified items and reasons of unqualified samples, the three types of problems such as food additives, microbial contamination, and excessive residues of agricultural and veterinary drugs were still used in excess of the limit, accounting for 30.3%, 25.3%, and 22.3% of the total unqualified items. At the same time, the quality indicators did not meet the standards, and the ratio of non-food substances detected to the total number of unqualified products decreased compared with the same period in 2017. In response to sampling unqualified samples, local food and drug supervision departments have urged enterprises to take off and recall, control product risks, and investigate illegal enterprises.
