The Labeling of the Nutrition Supplement
Food production enterprises shall choose to label the nutrient composition every 100 grams, every 100 milliliters, per serving, in order to accurately express the nutritional information of the product.
“Serving” is set by the company according to the characteristics of the product or the daily recommended quantity. Each bag, each can, each container, etc. could be considered as one serving, or one package can be divided into multiple portions, but each serving shall be indicated. For specific content (g, ml), GB 28050 standard does not specify the specific labeling position and labeling method of each food quantity. Enterprises shall choose according to the product packaging characteristics to ensure that consumers understand the label content correctly. It is recommended to mark the nutritional supplement table at an area adjacent to the nutrition label.
When “serving” are used as the unit of measurement, the nutrient content value “0” limit value shall be specified in accordance with the “0” limit value per 100 g or per 100 ml.
The Labeling of the Nutrition Supplement
According to the standard, pre-packaged foods using nutritional supplements, in addition to the label “1+4”, should also indicate the content of the nutrients in the fortified ingredients and its percentage of the nutrient reference value (NRV), as specified in GB 14880. The amount of nutrient supplement used refers to the actual amount of additional allowed during the production process, while the nutrition label should indicate the final actual nutrition supplement content in the food product. In view of the large difference in the content of various nutrients contained in different food raw materials, and the different nutrients in the production and shelf life of the attenuation and loss are not the same, there will be some differences.
For example, according to the requirements of GB 14880, the Modified milk produced by a company is allowed to fortify the calcium in the product. The calcium fortifying amount is 250~1000 mg/kg, and the enterprise adds 600 mg/kg (60 mg/100 g) in actual production due to The milk itself has a high calcium content. After the calculation or the actual content after the test is 135 mg/100 g, the enterprise must truly indicate this specific content of calcium in the final product.
For prepackaged foods using nutritional supplements, the labeling of nutrients (including name, order, expression unit, Rounding interval, etc.) shall be carried out in accordance with the requirements of Table 1 of GB 28050. For nutrients not listed in Table 1 but allowed to be fortified in GB 14880 in China, the order of labeling shall be located after the nutrients listed in Table 1 in accordance with the provisions of GB 28050. Similarly, pre-packaged foods that use nutritional supplements, their nutrient claims (including nutritional claims and nutrient functional claims) should also meet the requirements of GB 28050.
However, for some substances that are both nutritional supplements and food additives, such as riboflavin, vitamin C, vitamin E, potassium citrate, beta-carotene, calcium carbonate, etc., if, for the purpose of nutritional fortification, it should be followed The requirements of GB 28050 indicate its content in the final product. If it is used only as a food additive, it should meet the requirements of GB2760, and its content in the final product is not mandatory.
