Russia's grain exports to EU member states have come to a near halt against the backdrop of the EU's tariff hikes, totalling 21,000 euros worth of grain in September, RIA Novosti has calculated based on Eurostat data.

On July 1, the EU implemented tariff increases on imports of grain, oilseed crops and their products from Russia and Belarus. Depending on the specific product, the tariffs on products exported to Europe were either increased to 95 euros per tonne or 50 per cent.

Before the decision to impose tariffs came into force, the EU intensively stocked up on Russian grain.2024 imports nearly doubled to €11.8 million in June, compared to €6.5 million in May.

In July this year, imports fell by 75 per cent year-on-year to €2.9 million, and in August they stood at €3.7 million.
