  • The main function of the Irish Parliament is to make laws for Ireland, elect the government and approve the budget of government departments.   • The Irish Health Service Executive (HSE) is subordinate to the Ministry of Health and was established in accordance with the 2004 Health Act. Mainly responsible for improving, promoting and protecting the health and welfare of the public, including food manufacturing/processing, food wholesale/distribution, non-animal origin food import and food safety in all retail (including catering) processes.

  • The Irish Ministry of Health and Children is the predecessor of the Ministry of Health. The Irish Department of Agriculture, Food and Oceans is also responsible for the production of animal feed safety, animal health and welfare, and plant health.   • The Irish Environmental Protection Agency is an independent public institution established under the Environmental Protection Agency Act of 1992. Mainly responsible for environmental protection and monitoring work, involving many contents such as: environmental permits; enforcement of environmental laws; environmental planning, education and guidance; environmental monitoring, analysis and reporting; strategic environmental assessment and waste management.
