How Many Probiotics are Allowed to be Used in Infant Foods?

Probiotics are called the baby's "guardian of the intestines".

At the moment of the baby's birth, the probiotics are brought from the mother (the birth canal, breast milk). The environment of the intestinal flora lays the foundation for the baby's health. The intestines are in charge. Probiotics are very important in 70% of the body's immune function. Infant formula added with probiotics is even more popular.

However, consumers must remember that there are only 7 probiotics allowed in infant foods in China.

According to the "List of strains Allowed for Infant and Young Children" issued by the China National Health and Family Planning Commission in 2011, 2014 and 2016, Foodmate summarized the list only has seven probiotics:

These probiotics are safe for use in infant foods.

At present, the probiotics products on the market are complicated, and many probiotic strains are not included in the list of strains that allow to be used in infant foods. There are probiotics that are only suitable for children and not for infants and young children. Even some bacteria species has not yet been proven to be a "good bacteria". Therefore, it is suggested that parents are advised to select probiotics with the above strains when purchasing food-probiotics for their babies.
