SAMR Releases False Health Food Function Claim Alert

In order to help consumers to rationally purchase health foods, prevent fraud and misleading advtisement promotion and other violations of laws and regulations, the SAMR released a special tips as follows:
 
Health food refers to foods that claim to have health care functions or to supplement nutrients such as vitamins and minerals. Health foods are not medicines. They are not intended to treat or cure diseases. They can regulate certain functions of the body and are suitable for specific populations. According to the Food Safety Law, health foods must be registered or filed. At present, the regulatory authorities approve the registered health foods to allow the claimed health functions to be mainly in 27 categories. The health foods legally filed allow to use the health functions claim such as the product is supplemented with vitamins and minerals.

Health food production operators shall carry out label identification and publicity statements in strict accordance with the health functions registered or filed. We have compiled a list of false promotion statement on the 27 types of health care functions approved by the regulatory authorities in the market (see attached table for details). Any product that has such false promotion expressions, whether it is sold in a physical store or E-commerce store, or through the Internet, conference, TV, radio, telephone and newspapers, please do not buy, and you can call the hotline. 12331, 12315 to complaints and reports such issues.
