Case Study | Calculation error of fat content, judged to be label flaw

Consumer Liu purchased 10 bottles of oil. The outer package of the oil was labelled with a fat content of 99.6g, however, saturated fatty acid content was 19.5g and unsaturated fatty acid content was 80.5g, the total calculated content was 100g, which exceeded the labelled fat content of 99.6g.

The court considered that the label involved in the case was flawed, and Liu did not provide evidence to show the product did not meet food safety standards. Therefore, the court sentenced the company should return the purchase payment to Liu and rejected Liu’s ten time’s compensation claim.
