Vitiligo found in shrimp exports from Ecuador to China
From Intrafish on January 25, the Ecuadorian Aquaculture Association (CNA) confirmed that the Chinese government has suspended shipments of Ecuadorian prawn supplier Songa, after vitiligo was found in a batch of shipments.
China Customs informed the Ecuadorian Ambassador in Beijing.
Since July, exports of Ecuadorian shrimp to China have experienced a sharp decline. Previously, a series of COVID-19 viruses were found on the outer packaging of Ecuadorian shrimp products. This has caused people to worry that the exports to China may take several years to recover.
In mid-August, China lifted the import ban on Santa Priscila and Empacreci, the largest shrimp exporters in Ecuador.
The dialogue between Chinese and Ecuadorian officials prompted the two countries to sign a protocol in August that aims to clear the way for the export of Ecuadorian shrimp to China.
