South Korea publishes Notice on Prohibited Imported Foods


On February 4, the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) issued Announcement No. 2021-5, formulating a “Notice on Prohibited Foods” in accordance with Article 21, Paragraph 1 of the Food Sanitation Law. The main contents are as follows:

It is forbidden to import food and food additives (except milk, dairy products and collagen casings) that use ruminants and their by-products as raw materials from 37 countries (excluding China), including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy.

However, the following products and foods using them as raw materials can be imported: butter products, gelatin, collagen, calcium hydrogen phosphate. At the same time, the necessary documents for import requirements in accordance with Article 27, paragraph 1, of the "Implementation Rules of the Special import Food Safety Management Law" need to be confirmed separately.
