On March 8, 2024, the Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) issued Directive IN No. 284 in the Official Gazette, amending the regulation on food supplements. The main contents of this revision include:
(1) In Annex 3 (List of nutrients that must be made available to consumers in the form of food supplements), the name of "proanthocyanidins" is amended to "Cranberry proanthocyanidins", and the minimum supplemental amount for the probiotic supplement Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (DSM 33156) is amended. For example, the minimum added amount of the product for 0-6 years old is 10 to the power of 10 CFU;
(2) To amend Annex 5 (List of allowable claims for food supplements), such as Lactobacillus rhamnosus NCC 4007 May use the "contribute to gastrointestinal health" claim, provided that the added amount meets the added amount requirements in Annex 3;
(3) Amend Annex 6 (Food Supplement Labeling Regulations) to add the requirement that the label of food supplement containing resveratrol should be marked with the warning "Pregnant women, nursing mothers and children should not consume this product". The directive will enter into force on 1 April 2024.
