MEXICO CITY, May 30 - The Dominican Republic's National Commission for Food Sovereignty and Security (CONSEA) has lifted a measure restricting the export of bananas and their derivatives, the agency said in a posting on its website.

The ban on banana exports from the Dominican Republic has been in place since September 14, 2023, and the repeal has come into effect.

The Dominican Republic is one of the world's leading suppliers of organic bananas. According to the World Food Program, the country has more than 12,000 hectares of certified banana plantations, which account for 90 percent of Caribbean exports and 55 percent of world exports.
