Brazil revised quality standards for wine and wine derivatives

On October 11, 2024, the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply issued document No. 723, revising the quality standards for wine and wine derivatives. Implemented on the date of promulgation. Main contents:

 

(1) The alcohol content of the wine label is expressed as a percentage of volume at 20 ° C, and the error range is ± 0.5%; Cognac or premium cognac may be added with water to adjust the alcohol content; Sugar can be used for sweetening; Caramel color can be used for color blending;

 

(2) To amend the definitions of certain wines and beverages. The alcohol content of cool wine drinks at 20 degrees Celsius is 3.5%-7.0%; Sangria has an alcohol content of 7%-12%, etc. Carbonated alcoholic beverages must display the following warning phrase on the label: "Handle with care, there is pressure".
