On October 8 and October 10, 2024, the European Commission approved GM maize MON89034 x 1507 x NK603, GM maize
MON89034×1507×MON88017×59122 (and its 8-seed combination), transgenic maize DP202216 and transgenic cotton COT102 for food and feed. Of these, transgenic maize MON89034 x 1507 x NK603 (renewed approval), transgenic maize MON89034 x 1507 x MON88017 x 59122 (renewed approval) were developed by Cordova and Bayer, and transgenic maize MON89034 x 1507 x NK603 (renewed approval) expresses Cry1A.105, Cry2Ab2, Cry1F, pat, and cp4 epsps genes with tolerance to glufosinate ammonium and glyphosate as well as resistance to Lepidoptera; transgenic maize MON89034 × 1507 × MON88017 × 59122 (renewed approval) expressing cry1A.105, cry2Ab2, cry1F, cry3Bb1 cry34Ab1 and cry35Ab1 genes, with glyphosate and glufosinate ammonium tolerance and resistance to lepidopteran insects; transgenic maize DP202216, developed by Cordova, with glufosinate ammonium tolerance and high yield through expression of the mo-pat gene and the zmm28 gene; and transgenic cotton COT102, developed by the former Ortho, with resistance to glufosinate ammonium tolerance and high yield through expression of the The transgenic cotton COT102 was originally developed by Zhengda Company, through the expression of Vip3Aa19 gene and aph4 gene, it has the characteristics of resistance to lepidopteran insects and thiramycin B resistance.
Both the above GM maize and GM cotton were previously approved through the full safety assessment process, including the scientific assessment by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), and approved for food and feed, excluding cultivation use, with authorizations valid for 10 years, during which time they must strictly comply with EU labeling and traceability rules.
