Japan imported 18,271 tons of surimi in July, up 54.3% from a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Finance.
In July, Japan imported 4,372 tons of surimi from the United States, up 109.8% year on year. This was the first increase in four months. The sharp increase in imports from Russia, up eight times from the same period last year to 3,159 tons. Surimi import from southeast Asia was also evident.
Compared with June, Japan imported 694 tons of surimi from Argentina, up 11.2 percent month-on-month. Vietnam imported 2,060 tons, an increase of 50.4%. India imported 3,643 tons, up 66.9 percent from the previous month; Thailand imported 1,365 tonnes, almost equal month-on-month; Indonesia imported 100 tons, down 27.0 month on month.
In the first seven months of this year, Japan imported 133,169 tons of surimi, up 14.8% year on year. From the statistics, Japan's import of surimi continues to increase, and the industry expects the price of surimi to peak at the end of this year.
