The General Administration of Customs of China has just issued a notice on plant quarantine requirements for imported fresh bananas from Vietnam. As a result, Vietnamese fresh bananas that meet relevant requirements can be exported to China from Nov 8.
The quarantine requirements for imported Vietnamese fresh bananas are made in accordance with relevant Chinese laws and regulations and the Protocol between the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on Plant quarantine requirements for the export of Vietnamese fresh bananas to China, the announcement said.
According to this, the import of Vietnamese fresh edible bananas (scientific name Musa spp., English name Banana) only includes unripe green bananas with uncracked skins and picked within 10-16 weeks after flowering, which are produced in the banana producing areas of Vietnam.
Orchards and packaging plants exported to China shall be put on record by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, and be jointly approved and registered by the General Administration of Customs of China and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam. Registration information includes name, address and registration number.
Before the annual export season, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam shall provide the registration list to the General Administration of Customs of China, which shall publish the list on the official website and update it regularly after the review and approval of the General Administration of Customs of China.
Fresh bananas exported from Vietnam to China should meet the requirements of orchard management, packaging plant management, packaging requirements, pre-export quarantine and other regulations, and obtain the corresponding plant quarantine certificate. When bananas arrive at the entry ports of China, the Chinese Customs shall conduct inspection and quarantine in accordance with relevant requirements.
Statistics show that in recent years, the demand for imported bananas in the Chinese market has been rising. At present, the Philippines, Cambodia and Ecuador are the main sources of bananas imported to China.
