On December 5, 2022, New Zealand's Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) issued Announcement No. 52039, revising the "Animal Products Announcement-Animal Origin Food Safety Monitoring Plan and Procedures".

 The main content of the amendments are: 

(1) The scope of application of the announcement is revised to the safety monitoring of agricultural and veterinary drug residues, pollutants, biotoxins, microorganisms, additives and other items in animal-derived foods (including export products);

(2) Provide the 2023 annual sampling quantity of raw milk, dairy products, cattle, sheep, venison and its products, aquatic products, bee products and other foods, 2123 samples in total;

(3) Revised the specific requirements for sampling red meat animal-derived foods, including samples can only be extracted from fresh or frozen boneless raw meat. The total number of samples must be at least 300. The samples must come from places where animal-derived products are processed or stored (the storage time is no less than 96 hours). The sample collection must be carried out by relevant official personnel, sample packaging should be processed after the test is completed.

The amendment will come into effect on December 5, 2022.
