Denmark to Revise Nutrition Labeling Guidelines for Prepackaged Foods

On December 20, 2022, the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration (DVFA) issued proposal J.nr. 2020-29-33-00098, which intends to revise the "Guidelines for the Nutrition Labeling of Prepackaged Foods". 


The main contents include: 


(1) It distinguishes between mandatory nutrition declaration and voluntary nutrition declaration, and stipulates 8 kinds of nutrients (including mono/polyunsaturated fatty acids, polyols, starch, dietary fiber) that are allowed to make voluntary nutrition declarations etc.); 


(2) The errors in the nutrition label example in the original guidelines were corrected; 


(3) The reference units and conversion factors of vitamins in the nutritional composition table were revised, and the content determination of vitamin A (β-carotene) was deleted 


(4) Revise the calculation methods for the numerical value and content of various nutrients used to make the nutrient composition table. 


The comment period for this proposal ends on January 26, 2023.
