Isabel Quiroz, founder of Chilean iQonsulting fresh fruit export consulting company, said recently: "We think this is a wonderful moment for Chilean cherries in China. In terms of fruit volume, logistics speed and price, it is said to be the most successful season. As of the third week of 2023, Chilean cherries have sold more than 55 million boxes (5 kg/box, the same below) in China."
Spain's FreshPlaza website reported that Queiroz said: "It is expected that 20% of this season's cherries will arrive in China after the Chinese New Year, which is a positive sign. Chile will export a total of 82 million boxes of cherries this season, setting a new record. about 90% of them are destined for the Chinese market.”
Queiroz attributes this success to the coordination between Chilean producers, exporters, the Chilean Fruit Exporters Association (Asoex) and its Cherry Committee, as well as Chinese retailers and wholesalers. "The success of this season is due to the preparations for logistics and transportation made by Asoex, the Federation of Chilean Fruit Producers (Fedefruta) and the Chilean government, which ensured the smooth flow of cherries to the export market, especially the Chinese market. In addition , China's optimization and adjustment of epidemic prevention and control policies and the high efficiency of China's customs also provide guarantee for the logistics of cherries."
On the other hand, Queiroz also said: "The success of this season is also inseparable from the high-quality cherries provided by thousands of Chilean producers."
iQonsulting pointed out that compared with the 52nd week of 2022, the average price per kilogram of Chilean cherries sold in the Guangzhou wholesale market in the first week of 2023 increased by US$1.29. "In terms of varieties, Kordia has the highest average price per kilogram at US$13.07, followed by Rainer and Regina at US$11.59 and US$11.41 per kilogram respectively. "
