Peru will export 624,000 tons of Hass avocados in the 2023 season, an increase of 12.5% compared to 554,498 tons in the 2022 season.

Carlos Paredes Rosales, chairman of ProHass, said that the export volume in 2023 is expected to be about double that of 2018, when Peru's export volume was 338,549 tons. More importantly, the export volume in the 2023 season will be more stable, avoiding a supply peak concentrated in a few weeks.

2023 is different from previous years. Judging from the situation from January to February, due to the decline in avocado production in Spain, South Africa, Israel and other African countries, the supply of Peruvian avocado export destinations is relatively insufficient. Rosales said the association wants to diversify the avocados to different destinations, with less concentrated exports to the European market and more shipments to the US and Asia.

It is expected that Peru's exports to the United States will remain at the previous season's 125,000 tons, and exports to Asian markets are also expected to continue to grow. Rosales believes that the Asian market has great potential, and Peruvian avocados need to continue to consolidate their market share in Asia.

As of the fifth week of this year, Peru's 2023 avocado exports totaled 7,149 tons, which is 11% higher than the same period last year. Among them, 2,093 tons were exported in the fifth week, a year-on-year increase of 47%. So far the main export destination is the Netherlands, followed by China and Russia. Exports to the Netherlands were down 13% compared to the same period in the previous season, and Russia also saw a decline. The export volume to the Chinese market has tripled, making a good start for exports to China in 2023.
