From SeafoodNews, Feb. 20, India exported 1.36 million tons of seafood in fiscal year 2021-2022, with export earnings of $7.76 billion.
India plans to double its seafood exports to $14 billion in earnings by 2025, said Anupriya Patel, minister of commerce and industries of India.
India is one of the world's top five seafood exporters, and 17 percent of the country's agricultural exports are fish and their products.
Commenting on the import duty concessions on important shrimp/fish feed ingredients in the 2023-2024 federal budget, Anupriya Patel said the government is taking steps to protect the interests of the country's aquaculture farmers and the industry as a whole by reducing import duties on fishmeal/krill feed and vitamin premixes from 15 percent to 5 percent, while duties on fish fatty oils and seaweed primary products have been reduced by by half, from 30 percent to 15 percent.
