According to the NhanDan, after three years of interruption due to the new crown pneumonia epidemic, China is stepping up its imports of pepper and spices to Vietnam, prompting a sharp increase in Vietnam's exports to this market.
According to preliminary statistics from the Vietnam Pepper Association, in March this year, Vietnam exported 35,913 tons of various types of pepper (32,912 tons of black pepper and 3,001 tons of white pepper), with a total export value of 107.2 million US dollars, a month-on-month increase of 25.7%.
It is worth noting that Vietnam exported 15,710 tons of pepper to China in March, an increase of 85.2% month-on-month, which is the highest export volume in a single month and broke the export record of 11,953 tons in April 2020. In March, Vietnam’s pepper exports to traditional markets such as the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, India, Egypt, France, Russia, Canada, and Spain also increased significantly.
In the first three months of this year, Vietnam exported 76,727 tons of pepper, including 70,222 tons of black pepper and 6,505 tons of white pepper. The export value of pepper reached 235.9 million US dollars, the export value of black pepper reached 205.4 million US dollars, and the export value of white pepper reached 30.5 million US dollars. The export volume increased by 40.5% year-on-year, but the export value decreased by 7.3%.
In the first quarter of this year, Vietnam exported about 25,919 tons of pepper to China. According to the Vietnam Pepper Association, the reason for the sharp increase in exports to this market is that China has increased purchases to make up for the shortage caused by the three-year interruption due to the new crown pneumonia epidemic.
