Brazil released draft technical regulations on the characteristics and quality of dairy products

On 25 April 2023, the website of the Brazilian Government Gazette published SDA Decree No. 777, draft Technical Regulations on the Characteristics and quality of dairy products.


The draft regulations mainly include product definition and classification (according to the type of raw and auxiliary materials, they can be divided into dairy products without using exogenous ingredients and dairy products with added exogenous ingredients, etc.), and requirements for the use of raw and auxiliary materials (no animal or plant fats shall be added to products for the purpose of replacing milk fat, etc.). Vegetable oil should only be added for the purpose of improving taste and nutrition strengthening), sensory and physical and chemical properties (the milk protein content of dairy products without exogenous ingredients should not be less than 13g/100g (in terms of dry matter, The same below), milk protein content in dairy products with added exogenous ingredients shall not be less than 9g/100g, etc.), microbial hygiene standards (Salmonella and Escherichia coli shall not be detected), labeling requirements (dairy products with added vegetable oil shall be marked with the words "contains vegetable oil" below the marketing name, and the marketing name of the product shall include the name of non-dairy ingredients or flavoring agents that give the product significant characteristics Weighing, etc.), packing, storage and transportation regulations, etc.


The draft regulation has a 75-day feedback period.
