According to data from the Ecuadorian Aquaculture Association, the total export of Ecuadorian shrimp in the first four months of this year was US$2.13 billion, a slight increase of 2.4% year-on-year, of which exports to China accounted for 62%, higher than the 59% in 2022.

In the first quarter of this year, the export value of Ecuadorian shrimp was US$1.87 billion, which was close to the total export value of petroleum products of US$1.9 billion (including US$1.67 billion of crude oil and US$230 million of petroleum derivatives). After the April data is released, shrimp may surpass oil to become the largest export product.
