On June 23, 2023, the Japan Consumer Agency announced that it has allowed the labeling of foods for specific health purposes in accordance with the provisions of Article 43, Paragraph 1 of the Health Promotion Law Specified health foods (including conditional specific health foods). It refers to the food that is marked with the specific health purpose of the food when it is sold. In order to be sold as a specific health food, each product must be reviewed for food effectiveness and safety, and the label must also be approved by the state.
As of June 23, 2023, a total of 1,055 items of food have been approved for specific health use.
