Peru's Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation (Midagri) reported that in the first half of 2023, Peru's fruit and vegetable exports amounted to $3.91 billion, an increase of 6.2% from $3.68 billion in the same period in 2022. Among them, fruit exports reached 2.12 billion US dollars, an increase of 11.6%, accounting for 54.2% of the total fruit and vegetable exports.
In terms of export categories, the main fruits exported include table grapes at about $670 million, avocados at about $620 million, fresh mangoes at about $210 million, and fresh cranberries at about $190 million. Mango stands out among frozen fruits, with exports reaching $95 million.
In terms of export destinations, the top three countries are: the United States accounted for 27.9% of total exports, the Netherlands accounted for 15.2%, and Spain accounted for 6.7%. China ranked sixth with 4.4 percent, with imports totaling about $172 million.
Peru's fruit cultivation is mainly concentrated in the narrow coastal and mountainous areas, and some provinces have shown significant year-on-year growth in exports this year. Which coastal areas? 11 per cent increase in exports of avocados, fresh mangoes and fresh cranberries from cash province; 9.3% increase in exports of avocados and fresh cranberries from La Libertad province; Ica's exports of table grapes and avocados increased by 6.1%. In the mountainous province of Apurimac, exports of avocados, kiwifruit and potatoes jumped by 31%.
