On 30 August 2023, the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) published risk category regulations for foods of animal origin from non-EU countries. Implemented on April 30, 2024. Main contents:
A total of 23 countries, including China, have carried out risk assessments on food of animal origin from non-EU countries;
Specific animal food risk categories are divided into low, medium and high categories, such as: composite food at room temperature shelf stability and sterilization treatment belongs to the low-risk category, low-risk consignment goods do not need to carry out documents and on-site inspection, do not need a health certificate, but must be accompanied by the supplier's commercial documents; Medium - and high-risk foods require a health certificate issued by the competent authority of the country of origin of the goods, documentation and on-site inspection at border rearing checkpoints;
Relevant food products of animal origin will be subject to periodic risk category reviews.
