Recently, Gabriel Amaro, president of the Peruvian Agricultural Producers Association, pointed out that Peru will take the opportunity to host the APEC meeting next year to promote the access of a number of fruits to China.

The main destinations for Peruvian agricultural exports are the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States. Although the overall Asian market is just over $1 billion in sales, Asian countries, especially China, still show strong growth potential.

Peru is seeking access from China to fruits such as pomegranates, dragon fruit, cherries and organic bananas, as well as frozen fruits. Next year, Peru will host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), a summit that brings together major economies in the Asia-Pacific region that Peru wants to gain market access to. This is the best time to accelerate the process of fruit access, and it is expected that some fruits will soon be granted access to China and other Asian countries.
