From SeafoodMedia, 8 November - Malta already exports bluefin tuna to Japan and South Korea, and now Maltese farmed bluefin tuna will be exported directly to China after Malta signed a trade agreement with China.
The signing will continue to strengthen Malta's farming industry after months of negotiations regarding trade between the two countries.
Malta exports 95 per cent of its farmed bluefin tuna to Japan, which in turn reprocesses the imported Maltese tuna and exports it to China.
The Maltese government said that the Malta-China agreement on the export of bluefin tuna provides new opportunities for Maltese tuna producers to enter the Chinese market.
Malta hopes to sign similar agreements with more countries to promote and facilitate the development of Malta's farmed fish products.
