Japan revised food and food additive standards

On November 7, 2023, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan (MHLW) issued Notice 1107 No. 1, revising the specification standards for food and food additives. The main contents are:


1. Revised and formulated the maximum residue limits of various agricultural and veterinary drugs such as the new fungicide inpyrfluxam in some foods, as shown in the following table;


2. The food additive L-cysteine shall not be used in foods other than bread and natural fruit juices, but is not subject to the scope of application when it is used as a flavoring substance;


3. Exempting zinc oxide from the establishment of maximum residue limits in food.


The announcement will be implemented from the date of publication, and the change in the limits of five compounds, including the new fungicide inpyrfluxam, will take effect one year after the date of publication.
